Do I need a license to rent a boat on Lake Conroe?
You don't need a "boat license," but at Funday Rentals operators must be 25 or older, and Texas law requires a Boater Education Certificate if you were born after September 1, 1993. No certificate? Add one of our captains for $35/hr and skip the requirement — and the $300 deposit — entirely.
First, the lake you're about to meet
Lake Conroe is a 20,118-acre lake on the West Fork of the San Jacinto River, spanning Montgomery and Walker counties, created in 1973 — about an hour north of Houston and minutes from The Woodlands. It's a genuine fishing lake too: Texas Parks & Wildlife's Lake Conroe page lists largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, and white & hybrid striped bass as the main targets. On top of the hourly rate: a 5% fuel charge, 6.5% sales tax on the total, the $35/hr captain if you add one, and a $300 refundable security deposit only when you drive yourself. No mental math required — the booking page estimator shows your exact total before you commit to anything.
Booking, waivers, and the fine print
Book by sending a request from the site or calling/texting 281-771-6857 — we're open 7 days a week and confirm availability with you directly. Cancel free up to 48 hours out; inside 48 hours cancellations aren't allowed, and no-shows are charged in full. Every guest signs a participant waiver and the driver signs the boater rules — knock those out online in about two minutes on our waivers page before you arrive.
Day-of: what to expect at the dock
We launch from Papa's on the Lake — 14632 TX-105, Montgomery, TX 77356, right on Lake Conroe. Every rental starts with life jackets for your group and a safety walkthrough at the dock, so you know the boat before you leave it. Want extras? Add a ski tube ($30), a large float mat ($50), or a cooler ($15) when you book. We take cash, Mastercard, Visa, and American Express.
And the Texas-weather question: we make weather calls at the dock, and if conditions turn during your rental you get a rain check for the unused time — you don't just lose the day.

Yes. Add one of our captains to any boat for $35/hr and you don't need any certificate or experience — the captain handles the driving. Wake boats always come with a captain, and our captains coach first-timers on the water.
No — the requirement applies only to whoever operates the boat. Passengers just need to sign the participant waiver before the trip.
